GENDER RIGHTS ADVOCATES DEMAND REVIEW OF LAWS CRIMINALIZING RAPE AND DEFILEMENT OF MINORS IN NIGERIA.

Gender Rights Advocates have called for a review of the laws criminalizing rape and the defilement of minors in Nigeria, while also demanding the involvement of critical members of society to reduce the menace.

This was made known at a Public Lecture organized to launch “Broken Wings”, a book authored by IFEANYI HENRY EMI.

A guest lecturer who spoke at the event, Barrister OLUBUNMI EKUNDAYO of the Justice Development & Peace Commission argued that the legal framework on rape as presently structured is responsible for the low convictions in Nigeria.

On her part, a lecturer at the Tai Solarin College of Education, Dr. OBA ADENUGA MODUPE AYODELE emphasized that the crime of rape or defilement cannot be justified under any guise.

Author, IFEANYI HENRY EMI has described “Broken Wings” as an expository work of literature written to uncover the misconceptions on rape and gender violence in Nigeria.

IFEANYI HENRY EMI who spoke exclusively with Super FM also said the book was written in commemoration of the International Day for Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict.

According to him, the book addresses specific societal flaws with the aim of causing a remarkable transformation in the minds of everyone who reads it.

On his part, the Chief Host of the event, E.A. OSUSAN described the book as an important tool of correction and enlightenment.
