Police foil transformer vandalism, arrest suspect in Bauchi.


The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Monday Dauda, for allegedly vandalising an electricity transformer belonging to the Jos Electricity Distribution Company in Bogoro Local Government Area of the state.


The suspect was reportedly arrested while attempting to steal an armoured cable from the transformer located within the premises of Bogoro General Hospital.


The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.


According to Habib, the incident occurred at about 12:30 am on October 8, 2026, when a patrol team attached to the Bogoro Divisional Headquarters was conducting a routine confidence-building patrol in the town.

He said the operatives observed suspicious movements around the transformerand moved closer to investigate.

The statement read, “On October 8, 2026, at about 0030hrs, a patrol team attached to the Division, while on routine confidence-building patrol within Bogoro town, observed suspicious movements around an electricity transformer belonging to the Jos Electricity Distribution Company situated within the premises of Bogoro General Hospital.”


Habib explained that the operatives discovered that the suspect had removed the transformer’s armoured cable and attached it to a motorcycle, allegedly preparing to take it away.

“Upon discreet approach and inquiry, the operatives discovered that the suspect had already removed the armoured cable of the transformer and affixed same to a standby motorcycle with the intent to cart it away. He was immediately pursued and arrested,” the statement added.

The police spokesman said the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime during interrogation.


He added that the armoured cable and the motorcycle allegedly used in the operation were recovered as exhibits.


Habib further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism.


According to him, the commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure against vandalism and other criminal activities.


The statement added that Aliyu had directed the transfer of the suspect and the recovered exhibits to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for discreet investigation and subsequent prosecution.
