The opposition party says the impact of higher petrol prices is being felt across food, transportation, electricity, education and other areas of daily life.

The African Democratic Congress  has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of worsening economic hardship in the country, following the rise in petrol prices to as much as 1,470naira per litre.

The party said the increase had made transportation and other basic necessities more expensive, pushing Nigerians.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, in Abuja on Tuesday, the ADC said the impact of higher petrol prices was being felt across food, transportation, electricity, education and other areas of daily life.

The ADC also cited reports of private schools increasing fees by between 30 and 40 per cent, saying the development was another indication of the economic pressure on families.

The ADC further described the current petrol price as an additional burden on Nigerians, saying its effect had extended beyond the cost of transportation.

The party restated Atiku’s commitment to reducing the price of petrol by bringing back subsidy to support domestic production of fuel, which it said would help ease the cost of food, transportation and production.

The party also warned the ruling party against interpreting Nigerians’ patience as approval or surrender.

They stated that their resilience must not become an excuse for continued cruelty, stating that President Tinubu has had enough time and inflicted enough pain. Requesting for President Tinubu to act immediately and stop pushing Nigerians to their limits.
