The Edo State Police Command has commenced moves to strengthen its partnership with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 elections and other forthcoming electoral activities in the State.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor, made this known on Monday, September 7, 2026, when he paid a familiarisation visit to the INEC Edo State Office at Aduwawa, Benin City.

Daaor met with the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hon. Obo Effanga, and members of the Commission’s management team, where they discussed measures to improve election security and ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.

The meeting focused on inter-agency collaboration, intelligence sharing and security planning, with the Commissioner stressing the need for sustained cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force and INEC.

According to him, effective stakeholder engagement and early security planning are critical to preventing security threats and ensuring the smooth conduct of elections.

As part of the visit, Daaor conducted an on-the-spot security assessment of the INEC facility to identify possible vulnerabilities and determine additional measures required to strengthen security around the premises.

The assessment is considered crucial as the facility is expected to receive and store sensitive electoral materials ahead of forthcoming elections and other electoral activities.

The Commissioner assured INEC of the command’s readiness to work closely with the electoral body, sister security agencies and other stakeholders to provide a secure environment for electoral activities across Edo State.

The command said the engagement formed part of Daaor’s broader strategy of building stronger relationships with critical institutions and improving security preparedness ahead of future elections.
