The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says it recorded a total of 2,158,600 votes in the recently concluded local government elections across the state.
The party described the outcome as a historic and unprecedented victory after sweeping all 18 Local Government Chairmanship seats and all 192 Councillorship seats.
Addressing journalists in Benin City, the State Chairman of the APC, Jarret Tenebe said the overwhelming votes reflect the confidence Edo people have in the party, in Governor, Monday Okpebholo, and in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to him, the victory was the result of hard work, purposeful leadership, effective grassroots mobilization, and the unwavering support of the good people of Edo State.
Tenebe recalled that even while in opposition during the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki the APC continued to participate in elections despite intimidation and an uneven playing field. He noted that the party won several councils then, but alleged that the results were not respected as preferred candidates were hurriedly sworn in.
“Those who chose to boycott elections in the past or abandoned the democratic process have little moral standing to question the outcome of an election they deliberately refused to participate in,” he said.
He added that Edo people demonstrated their trust in the APC again in 2024 when the party defeated the PDP to produce Governor Okpebholo. Since assuming office, he said, the Governor has restored hope through visible development and improved governance.
Tenebe further stated that the LG poll victory confirms that Edo people believe in the leadership of both President Tinubu and Governor Okpebholo, and that the party’s target of delivering 2.5 million votes to President Tinubu in 2027 is achievable.
He thanked Edo voters, security agencies, EDSIEC, party leaders, traditional rulers, community leaders, election officials and the media for ensuring a peaceful process.
Extending a hand of fellowship to those who lost, Tenebe said the time for politics is over and the time for unity and development has begun.
“We do not take this mandate for granted. We remain committed to serving the people with humility, transparency, and unwavering dedication,” he concluded.
