APC Lawmaker Breaks Silence on Second-Term Setback, Reaffirms Loyalty to Party and Yayi

The Chief Whip of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. (Mrs.) Bakare Omolola Olanrewaju, has disclosed that the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) withdrew support for her re-election bid over her political alignment with Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.

Hon. Bakare, who represents Ijebu Ode State Constituency, made the revelation in a press statement issued on Saturday, where she addressed recent political developments surrounding her second-term ambition.

According to the lawmaker, her support for Senator Adeola became a source of concern within certain quarters of the party and “contributed significantly” to the decision by Governor Dapo Abiodun to withdraw support for her candidacy.

Despite the development, she maintained that she remains loyal to the APC and harbours no bitterness over the outcome.

“Politics, by its nature, involves negotiation, alignment, and sometimes difficult decisions taken in the broader interest of unity and strategy,” Hon. Bakare stated, adding that she accepted the decision with a sense of responsibility and respect for the party.

The Chief Whip, however, insisted that she had no regrets over her support for Senator Adeola.

“I do not regret my support for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola,” she declared, while also dismissing alleged attempts in some quarters to misrepresent her character and actions, describing such claims as unfounded.

She expressed appreciation to the leadership and stakeholders of the APC for their guidance and support throughout her political journey.

Hon. Bakare specifically acknowledged the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) led by Chief O.B. Okuboyejo, the Iyalaje of Akile Ijebu, the Iyaloja and Olojas, the Chief Imam of Ijebuland, other religious leaders, and her constituents for their steadfast support and commitment to unity within the party.

The lawmaker further appealed to her supporters to remain calm and continue participating in the democratic process, emphasizing that the collective interest of the people must remain paramount.

Our collective goal remains the advancement of our people and the strengthening of our democratic institutions,” she said.

She also thanked Almighty God and all those who supported her during her first tenure and her re-election bid, praying for divine rewards for their support.

Her statement comes amid ongoing political realignments within the Ogun APC ahead of the 2027 general elections and the growing influence of Senator Adeola in the state’s political landscape.
