Ogun CP Orders Police Post at OOU Ibogun After Hostel Robbery Attack

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, has ordered the establishment of a police post around the Ibogun Campus of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) following a midnight robbery attack on student hostels.

The move, according to the police boss, is aimed at enhancing rapid response, increasing police visibility, and strengthening community policing within the institution and its host communities.

The decision comes in the wake of a weekend incident in which about 12 armed suspects reportedly invaded student hostels, fired sporadically, and carted away phones, laptops, and other valuables, raising fresh concerns over security on campus.

In response, Ojajuni on Monday led a high-level security delegation—including the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Bolanle Muritala, and the Area Commander, Ifo, ACP Seyi Williams—on an assessment visit to the university.

During the visit, the CP held a strategic meeting with key stakeholders, including the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Agboola; the Provost, College of Engineering and Environmental Sciences, Professor Bashir Odufuwa; the Olu of Ibogun-Sowumi, Oba Timothy Sowumi; as well as community leaders and principal officers of the institution.

Ojajuni assured stakeholders that the command had reviewed the security architecture in the area and would immediately deploy enhanced measures to prevent a recurrence.

He outlined plans for increased patrols, intelligence-driven operations, and sustained stakeholder engagement as part of efforts to restore confidence and ensure a secure learning environment.

The CP also disclosed ongoing collaboration with other security agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps, and So-Safe Corps, to strengthen coordinated responses across the area.

Reaffirming the command’s commitment to community policing and inter-agency synergy, Ojajuni stressed that safeguarding lives and property remains a top priority, particularly in critical institutions such as universities.
