The Ogun State House of Assembly is tightening oversight on environmental and urban management, as Speaker Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide warns against indiscriminate refuse disposal and the misuse of road shoulders for storing building materials—practices increasingly blamed for traffic disruption and infrastructure damage across the state.
The warning followed a matter of urgent public concern raised during plenary by Hon. Ademola Adeniran, representing Sagamu II State Constituency. Adeniran highlighted persistent cases of residents occupying road shoulders with construction materials for extended periods, describing the trend as a growing nuisance that obstructs traffic flow and undermines road maintenance efforts.
Lawmakers emphasized that beyond congestion, the practice is accelerating wear and tear on public infrastructure, creating additional pressure on government resources meant for road upkeep and urban management.
In a parallel move that signals a broader policy shift, the Assembly adopted the report of its Committee on Lands and Housing, effectively approving a suite of revised regulations to strengthen physical planning and development control across Ogun State.
The new framework includes the Ogun State Building Production Management Regulation, 2025; Planning and Development Permit Regulation, 2025; Slum Regeneration Regulation, 2025; Outdoor Physical Furniture Regulation, 2025; and Layout and Land Subdivision Regulation, 2025.
The resolution, presented by Committee Chairman Hon. Damilola Soneye and seconded by Hon. Lukman Adeleye, received unanimous backing after a motion for adoption was moved by House Leader Hon. Yusuf Sheriff.
With the directive for immediate transmission to relevant authorities, the Assembly is positioning the regulations as a coordinated response to urban disorder—combining enforcement with policy reform to improve planning standards, protect infrastructure, and ensure smoother traffic movement across the state.
