Ogun Governor Distributes 40 SUVs to Monarchs, Pushes for Investor-Friendly Environment

In a strategic blend of appreciation and policy messaging, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has distributed 40 brand-new SUVs to traditional rulers, reinforcing their role as critical partners in governance and economic development.

The vehicles were presented during the statutory meeting of the Ogun State Council of Obas held at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, where the governor underscored the importance of traditional institutions in maintaining peace and fostering grassroots development.

Abiodun described monarchs as custodians of culture and key intermediaries between government and the people, noting that improved mobility would enhance their capacity to maintain stability across their domains.

However, beyond the ceremonial gesture, the governor delivered a clear and firm directive: Ogun State must remain open and attractive to investors.

He raised concerns over reports of hostility toward investors in areas such as Yewa South, Ipokia, and Ijebu North, warning that such actions could derail billions of dollars in potential investments.

According to him, investor confidence is non-negotiable for economic growth, job creation, and infrastructure development.

“Communities must take ownership of development, not frustrate it,” the governor stated, stressing that Ogun cannot afford to send negative signals to investors at a time when competition for capital is intensifying.

Abiodun tasked traditional rulers with the responsibility of ensuring peaceful, cooperative environments within their domains, positioning them as frontline enablers of economic expansion.

He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting investments, warning that actions capable of discouraging investors would not be tolerated.

On security, the governor called for heightened vigilance across communities, urging residents and traditional leaders to collaborate closely with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities promptly.

While acknowledging ongoing national security efforts under Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he emphasized that local intelligence and community-level awareness remain critical to sustaining Ogun’s relative peace.

Abiodun also addressed land administration—often a flashpoint in investor relations—cautioning against indiscriminate land allocation and disputes. He described land as a strategic economic asset that must be managed transparently to attract credible investors.

“Our land is our oil,” he declared, reinforcing the need for integrity and accountability in land dealings.

The governor extended his warnings to property owners, stating that buildings used for criminal activities would face demolition, signaling a tougher stance on internal security threats.

Speaking at the event, Chief Economic Adviser, Dapo Okubadejo, commended the governor for recognizing the contributions of traditional rulers, noting that their continued support is vital for sustaining peace and driving development.

He echoed the governor’s call for stronger collaboration between communities and government, particularly in creating a business-friendly environment that attracts and retains investment.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hazmat, highlighted that the meeting—its first in 2026—focused on strengthening partnerships between the government and traditional institutions to tackle security and development challenges.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Kehinde Olugbenle, commended the governor’s developmental strides and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to policies that promote economic growth, stability, and the wellbeing of Ogun residents.

The event ultimately served as more than a symbolic gesture—it was a policy signal. Ogun State is doubling down on a governance model that integrates traditional authority with modern economic strategy, aiming to position itself as a top-tier investment destination in Nigeria.
