Yewa Council to Honour Ex-IGP Egbetokun with Grand Civic Reception

The Yewa Peoples Development Council (YPDC) is set to roll out a high-profile civic reception in honour of former Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, marking his retirement after a notable career in national security.

The event, scheduled for April 11, 2026, at Yewa Frontier Hotel in Ilaro, underscores a strong regional pride as Yewa stakeholders celebrate one of their most prominent sons. Egbetokun, who served as the 22nd indigenous Inspector-General of Police, also made history as the first from Ogun State to occupy the nation’s top policing position.

According to the council’s chairman, Rahamon Bello, the reception is designed not just as a ceremonial gathering but as a symbolic acknowledgment of Egbetokun’s contributions to national security and public service.

Adding royal weight to the occasion, the Paramount Ruler of Yewa-Land and Olu of Ilaro, Kehinde Olugbenle, will lead the Yewa Traditional Council in honouring the retired police chief and his wife.

The ceremony is expected to attract a strong lineup of dignitaries, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, the current Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, alongside senior military officers, industry leaders, and traditional rulers from across Nigeria.

Egbetokun, who assumed office on June 20, 2023, voluntarily retired on February 24, 2026, after decades of service within the Nigeria Police Force. His honouring by the Yewa community reflects a broader narrative of local recognition for national service, reinforcing the role of regional identity in celebrating public sector achievements.
