In a decisive grassroots response to rising security concerns, the Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja has unveiled a community-driven security outfit, “Ibadan Guards,” aimed at strengthening safety across Ibadan.

The initiative, launched at the monarch’s palace in Oke Aremo, marks a strategic shift toward localized security architecture, with operatives set to be deployed across all eleven local government areas in Ibadanland. The move reflects growing recognition that community-level interventions are critical in addressing evolving security challenges.

Positioned as a complementary force, the Ibadan Guards are expected to collaborate closely with formal security agencies, enhancing intelligence gathering and rapid response at the grassroots. Alongside the security initiative, the Olubadan also introduced “Gaari Ibadan,” a food support programme designed to cushion economic hardship among residents. The dual rollout signals a holistic strategy—tackling both safety and socio-economic pressures as interconnected drivers of stability.
