The Federal Road Safety Corps has intensified its Easter safety operations in Enugu State, deploying 569 personnel to manage traffic flow and reduce road accidents during the festive period.
The Sector Commander in the state, Franklin Agbakoba, disclosed that the deployment includes 309 regular marshals and 260 special marshals, all positioned strategically across major road corridors.
According to him, the command has also mobilised 10 operational vehicles, including patrol vans, a motorbike, a tow truck, and a fully equipped ambulance to ensure rapid emergency response. The special patrol, which runs from April 1 to April 10, will operate кругл the clock through shift-based personnel coverage.
A key development expected to ease movement this season is the reopening of the second lane of the Ugwu-Onyeama axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway. The project, facilitated by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, is projected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and lower accident risks along the busy corridor.
Agbakoba emphasised that beyond enforcement, the success of the operation depends heavily on public cooperation. He urged motorists to plan their trips early, avoid reckless driving, and strictly comply with traffic regulations.
He issued a strong warning to commercial drivers against overloading and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, stressing that violators would face strict sanctions.
The FRSC, he added, remains committed to ensuring that Nigerians travel safely and arrive at their destinations without incident, reinforcing its broader mandate of road safety and accident prevention during peak travel periods.
