FG Declares April 3 & 6 Public Holidays for Easter, Urges Nigerians to Embrace Unity and Love

The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Easter celebration, using the moment to reinforce a national message of unity, tolerance, and shared responsibility.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who extended congratulations to Christians across Nigeria and in the diaspora, while emphasizing the deeper significance of the season beyond festivities.

Positioning Easter as a strategic moment for national reflection, Tunji-Ojo called on Nigerians to internalize values such as selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance, and love—principles rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ.

He highlighted the need for strengthened social cohesion, noting that the Easter period serves as a reminder of the collective values that bind the nation together. According to him, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect remain critical pillars for Nigeria’s stability and long-term development.

The minister also used the announcement to reiterate the Federal Government’s ongoing commitment to implementing policies geared toward national rebirth, economic growth, and inclusive prosperity.

As Nigerians prepare for the holidays, the government’s message is clear: beyond celebration, Easter presents an opportunity to recalibrate national consciousness toward unity, resilience, and progress.
