Christians in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area have commended the Ogun State Government for distributing bags of rice to churches as part of activities marking Palm Sunday, describing the gesture as timely support amid prevailing economic challenges.
The distribution exercise, held in Ijebu Ode, saw beneficiaries drawn from key worship centres, including the Cathedral Church of St. Saviour and Foursquare Gospel Church, Ita-Ale.
Religious leaders who spoke with journalists expressed appreciation to the state government, noting that the intervention would ease the burden on families during the Easter season. Reverend Canon Adelakun Samuel of the Cathedral Church of St. Saviour described the donation as impactful, offering prayers for the administration.
Similarly, the District Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Reverend Adetayo Jokotagba, lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for what he termed a thoughtful and compassionate gesture, particularly at a time many households are grappling with economic pressure.
Beneficiaries also echoed the sentiment, highlighting the practical value of the support in cushioning living costs during the festive period. For many, the distribution goes beyond symbolic celebration, serving as a direct intervention to improve welfare at the grassroots level.
The initiative reflects the government’s continued effort to engage religious communities while providing targeted relief, reinforcing its social support strategy during key national and religious observances.
