FG Expands Renewed Hope Programme, Reaches 6,000 More Households in Ogun State

The Federal Government of Nigeria has scaled up its Renewed Hope humanitarian initiative, extending financial support to 6,000 additional households in Ogun State through the distribution of debit cards under its poverty alleviation drive.

The latest phase of the intervention, executed in Sagamu, is part of a broader strategy to deepen financial inclusion and cushion the effects of economic hardship, particularly among unbanked and vulnerable populations.

Speaking during the exercise, the State Programme Manager, Damilola Owoojuona, disclosed that the rollout is being implemented in phases to ensure wider reach and operational efficiency. He revealed that over 23,000 residents had already benefited from the programme between November and December 2025, underscoring its growing impact across the state.

The initiative operates under the Household Prosperity and Empowerment (HoPE) Cash Transfer Programme, which focuses on delivering direct financial assistance to low-income households nationwide, using structured data from the National Social Register.

Beneficiaries have largely endorsed the programme, describing it as transparent and free from political or religious bias. For many, the intervention represents more than short-term relief—it is a pathway to economic stability.

In Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, one of the recipients, Mrs. Ogunseye Rebecca, noted that the support would significantly boost her small trading business and improve her family’s standard of living.

With phased expansion ongoing, officials say more households captured in the register are expected to benefit, positioning the programme as a critical lever in the government’s broader poverty reduction and economic recovery strategy.
