Police Week: Ogun State Police Command Targets Community Trust with Free Medical Outreach, Sanitation Drive

The Ogun State Police Command has kicked off the 2026 Police Week with a strategic shift toward community-centered policing, launching a free medical outreach and a statewide sanitation exercise aimed at strengthening public trust and promoting health awareness.

The initiative, flagged off in Abeokuta by the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, forms part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day.

At the NUJ Council Secretariat, Iwe Iroyin, residents turned out in numbers to benefit from free health services provided by the Department of Force Medical Services. The outreach offered blood pressure and blood sugar checks, body mass index assessments, and health education focused on preventive care and healthy living.

In a parallel effort, sanitation exercises were conducted across all Area Commands and Divisions in the state, underscoring the Command’s commitment to environmental cleanliness as a key driver of public health.

The police also acknowledged the support of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, and media practitioners for their role in mobilizing public participation.

Beneficiaries described the initiative as timely, particularly in the face of rising healthcare costs, and called for sustained engagement. The Command noted that the activities reflect a broader strategy to reposition the Force as a people-oriented institution, with more programmes lined up throughout the week to deepen community relations across the state.
