Ogun Advances Digital Governance Drive with AI Leadership Retreat

The Head of Service of Ogun State, Kehinde Onasanya, has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for championing an ambitious digital transformation agenda aimed at modernising the state’s civil service and improving governance through technology.

Onasanya made the remarks while declaring open a two-day Executive Strategic Retreat on AI Leadership and Digital Transformation, organised by the Ogun State Government in partnership with GFA Technologies and supported by the United States Consulate General.

The retreat, held at the state tech hub along Kobape Road in Abeokuta, brought together top officials across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), including Permanent Secretaries, Directors-General, and key financial oversight officers.

Describing the Abiodun administration as forward-looking, Onasanya said the government has consistently prioritised innovation as a core governance strategy, leveraging technology to drive efficiency, transparency, and improved service delivery.

“This retreat reflects leadership that understands the urgency of adapting to global technological shifts and demonstrates confidence in the capacity of the Civil Service to evolve,” he said.

He identified longstanding systemic challenges within the public sector—such as delays in file processing, poor data accessibility, and fragmented administrative systems—stressing the need for integrated, automated solutions to address them.

Highlighting ongoing reforms, Onasanya pointed to key initiatives including OgunLearn, AI-driven lesson planning tools, and the Ogun State Spatial Data Infrastructure, all designed to strengthen coordination and data sharing across MDAs.

Participants were urged to embrace innovation, foster adaptive institutions, and actively contribute to building a responsive, tech-enabled public service.

In his remarks, Adebola Omololu, CEO of GFA Technologies, said the retreat was structured to equip public officials with practical tools to enhance operations and boost Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). He described Ogun State as a leading sub-national in adopting innovation-driven governance models.

A representative of the U.S. Consulate, Tunji Oke, noted that the American Corner platform was established to promote leadership development, partnerships, and technological advancement, particularly in artificial intelligence.

Participants, including senior officials such as Lydia Fajounbo, Rotimiolu Akinlesi, Olayinka Elemide, and Olusegun Olaotan, commended the initiative, noting that it would significantly improve service delivery, data management, and revenue generation across government institutions.

Others, including Olubunmi Fatungase, Feyisara Bolarinwa-Adebowale, and Oluseye Ige, highlighted the value of the training in leveraging digital tools for better governance outcomes.

The initiative further reinforces Ogun State’s positioning as a frontrunner in digital governance, with a clear strategic focus on integrating artificial intelligence into public administration to meet evolving global standards.
