Labour Party Ogun East Signals Political Resurgence with Strong Grassroots Mobilisation

The Ogun East chapter of the Labour Party has made a bold statement of intent ahead of future elections, showcasing renewed unity, structured grassroots mobilisation, and a clear strategic roadmap to strengthen its political foothold across the senatorial district.

This was evident at a high-level stakeholders’ meeting attended by key party leaders, including the Deputy National Chairman, Temitayo Nike Oriola, whose presence highlighted the growing national relevance of Ogun East within the party’s broader political calculations.

Addressing the gathering, Oriola delivered a firm message centered on unity, transparency, and institutional integrity. She reiterated her commitment to internal democracy, maintaining a strict non-interference stance in the selection of party executives while commending the Ogun East structure for its discipline and coordination.

“Labour Party is the party of workers. We are all workers, and it is only workers who can demand the best from government,” she stated, reinforcing the party’s ideological foundation.

The meeting, convened by Ogun East leader Wale Kuku, brought together representatives from all nine Local Government Areas in what stakeholders described as an unprecedented demonstration of cohesion and grassroots strength.

Participation levels reflected growing momentum within the party, with each LGA represented by no fewer than ten leaders, and some exceeding twenty delegates—an indication of deepening engagement and renewed political enthusiasm.

A major highlight of the session was the submission of ward executive lists, with several wards presenting complete 15-member executive structures. This development signals increasing organisational maturity and readiness for electoral contests.

Party data presented at the meeting revealed that each ward currently averages about 30 active members. Leaders have now set a target to double this figure to 60 members per ward within the next 30 days, a move aimed at significantly expanding grassroots capacity and voter mobilisation strength.

Outlining the next phase of engagement, Kuku announced that ward and LGA meetings will commence in April, backed by logistical support and incentives designed to sustain participation and deepen party structures at the local level.

He also disclosed ongoing engagements with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), aimed at driving mass adoption of the party among organised labour—a move that could further consolidate its base ahead of future elections.

In addition, Kuku highlighted the emergence of the Transform Ogun Coalition (TOC), a strategic alliance of professionals, youth groups, and stakeholders committed to reshaping governance in the state. According to him, the coalition is focused on producing credible and competent candidates capable of setting new standards in leadership and public service.

With strengthened internal cohesion, expanding grassroots structures, and alignment with national leadership, political observers note that Labour Party Ogun East is steadily positioning itself as a formidable force in Ogun State politics.

The outcome of the meeting sends a clear signal: the party in Ogun East is no longer in a rebuilding phase—it is actively transitioning into a competitive political machine with ambitions to win across the board.
