Omoluabi Movement Rebrands as Yayi Progressives Movement Ahead of 2027 Elections

A prominent political group in Ogun State, the Omoluabi Movement, has officially rebranded as the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM) as part of strategic realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Convener, Armstrong Tope Akintunde, and released to journalists in Abeokuta by the State Media Director, Oluseun Joshua.

According to Akintunde, the rebranding represents a natural progression in the movement’s political philosophy, marking the transition into a new phase following the successful execution of its previous agenda.

He explained that members of the newly rebranded platform are committed to mobilising support for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across all levels in the state—from the presidential election to State House of Assembly contests—with particular focus on the governorship ambition of Senator Solomon Adeola in 2027.

Describing the Yayi Progressives Movement as a formidable grassroots coalition, Akintunde noted that it comprises artisans, professionals, youth groups, and politically conscious stakeholders, alongside 17 affiliated groups working towards the continued progress and development of the state.

He further revealed that the movement boasts a membership strength of over 30,000, a figure he said underscores its growing influence and expanding base, as more groups continue to align with its vision.

“The leadership of the Omoluabi Movement hereby announces its official transition and rebranding into the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM) in Ogun State. As one of the leading grassroots political platforms in the state, the Movement considers it important to inform the general public and stakeholders of the rationale behind this strategic evolution,” the statement read.

Akintunde explained that the shift also reflects a departure from the Dapo Abiodun Continuity Agenda (DACA), which previously served as the group’s political vehicle in support of the re-election of Governor Dapo Abiodun during the 2023 general elections.

He noted that the platform played a key role in mobilising grassroots support at the time, contributing to what he described as improved governance outcomes in the state.

Looking ahead, the Yayi Progressives Movement aims to deepen grassroots participation and promote progressive ideals anchored on inclusivity, civic responsibility, and accountable leadership.

“Through this rebranding, the Yayi Progressives Movement seeks to build an inclusive political structure that empowers citizens, promotes integrity, and redefines leadership culture. Our philosophy is centred on institutional reforms that will create lasting impact beyond electoral cycles,” Akintunde added.

He emphasised that sustainable political development must be driven by strong ideological conviction and reform-oriented leadership, with a focus on economic growth, industrial expansion, educational advancement, and enhanced civic engagement.

The rebranding signals an early consolidation of political structures ahead of the 2027 elections, as stakeholders begin to position themselves within Ogun State’s evolving political landscape.
