TASFUED to Honour Remi Tinubu, Abiodun, Osoba with Honorary Doctorates at 17th Convocation

The Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED), Ijagun, has named Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, and former governor and elder statesman, Chief Olusegun Osoba, among recipients of honorary doctorate degrees at its 17th convocation ceremony scheduled for January 29.

The university’s management announced the decision in a statement signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Dapo Oke, describing the trio as exceptional individuals whose contributions have had a lasting impact on society.

According to the statement, the honorary awards reflect TASFUED’s commitment to excellence and its tradition of recognising distinguished Nigerians whose achievements serve as inspiration across generations.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu will be conferred with a Doctor of Science (D.Sc. Ed.) Honoris Causa in Childhood Education. The university cited her long-standing philanthropic work through the New Era Foundation, which focuses on women and girl-child empowerment, youth development, healthcare, education, and environmental health. It also highlighted her 12-year tenure as Senator for Lagos Central, during which she served on key committees including Health and Women’s Affairs, as well as her continued advocacy for women and youth in her role as First Lady.

Governor Dapo Abiodun is to receive a Doctor of Science (D.Sc. Ed.) Honoris Causa in Education Management. TASFUED noted that since assuming office in 2019, Abiodun has combined private-sector experience with public service, driving development through his “ISEYA” agenda covering infrastructure, social welfare, education, youth development, agriculture, and governance. The university also credited his administration with initiating the process that led to the institution’s transition into a federal university, a move described as having long-term significance for education in Ogun State.

Former governor and statesman, Chief Olusegun Osoba, will be awarded a Doctor of Science (D.Sc. Ed.) Honoris Causa in Political Science. The university described Osoba as a towering figure in Nigeria’s democratic history, journalism, and governance, noting his two tenures as Ogun State governor and his role in the struggle for the restoration of civilian rule. TASFUED further acknowledged that Osoba’s administration laid the legal foundation that transformed the former College of Education into a degree-awarding institution, eventually becoming the Tai Solarin University of Education.

The institution said the conferment of the honorary degrees underscores the enduring contributions of the awardees to education, governance, democracy, and national development, while reinforcing the university’s values of integrity, service, and societal impact.
