Daniel Backs Tinubu’s Reforms, Says Nigeria Has Passed Economic Worst

Former Ogun State governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, has declared that Nigeria is gradually turning the corner economically under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, insisting that the most difficult phase of the reforms is over.

Daniel made the assertion on Sunday while speaking at his family’s annual Thanksgiving service held at Abraham Tabernacle in Sagamu, where over 200 clerics were in attendance.

Commending President Tinubu’s reform agenda, the senator described policies such as the flotation of the naira, removal of fuel subsidy, and renewed focus on national security as bold but necessary decisions laying the foundation for long-term economic stability.

“Nigeria can only get better. The worst is behind us,” Daniel said, expressing confidence that current sacrifices would yield sustainable growth. He pointed to early indicators such as easing inflationary pressures and improved security responses as signs that the reforms are beginning to deliver results, even as citizens continue to grapple with economic hardship.

He urged Nigerians to remain patient and prayerful, describing the ongoing transition as a critical phase in the nation’s economic reset. According to him, the large turnout of clergy at the thanksgiving service symbolised a collective resolve to support the country’s recovery spiritually and morally.

Addressing widespread public distrust of political leaders, Daniel acknowledged that deceit exists in politics but maintained that some leaders remain guided by principles of selfless service. He aligned himself with the legacy of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, noting that integrity and service without blemish remain achievable in public office.

Reflecting on his over 20 years in public service, the senator highlighted constituency interventions aimed at cushioning economic hardship, including the distribution of empowerment tools such as motorcycles, grinding machines, sewing machines and freezers. He also cited infrastructure projects and the sponsorship of free eye surgeries for more than 4,000 constituents across Ogun East.

Daniel reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that improve citizens’ welfare, stating that legislative efforts and constituency projects would continue to complement federal government policies designed to stabilise the economy and improve living standards.
