Staff of the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) have been charged to remain focused, diligent, and committed to integrity in order to enhance revenue generation, block leakages, and eliminate sharp practices across the state.
The charge was given by the Executive Chairman of OGIRS, Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye, during the agency’s New Year prayer session held at its headquarters in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Olaleye stressed that integrity remains the cornerstone for building and sustaining the confidence of taxpayers and the general public, noting that trust is critical to achieving improved revenue outcomes.
He urged staff to approach their responsibilities with seriousness, especially in the face of evolving tax regulations.
“Do your work diligently. The new tax laws are similar to the millennium era when many were uncertain about what would happen. As tax regulatory authorities, you have a lot of responsibility,” he said.
According to him, strict adherence to ethical standards and professionalism would not only strengthen public trust but also help the agency meet and surpass its revenue targets for the year.
In his sermon, Pastor Caleb Ayinla of Rhema Chapel International Churches, Yaba, Lagos, drew his exhortation from Jeremiah 29:11–14, underscoring the importance of prayer in personal and professional life. He cited biblical examples such as Job and Elijah to illustrate how prayer can transform difficult situations, encouraging staff to cultivate a consistent prayer life as a source of strength and direction.
Similarly, the Chief Imam of the Government Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, Imam AbdulFatai Buhari, advised OGIRS staff to shun hypocrisy and conduct their duties with sincerity and commitment. He called on workers to be proactive and to renew their intentions as they embark on a new year of service.
In his vote of thanks, the Director of Administration and Supplies at OGIRS, Mr. Olusegun Akinfaiye, expressed gratitude to God for the gift of life and commended the Executive Chairman for his dedication to staff welfare. He also encouraged employees to intensify their efforts to ensure the agency successfully achieves its 2026 revenue target.
The New Year prayer session marked the official commencement of OGIRS’ activities for the year, setting a tone of integrity, accountability, and renewed commitment to revenue mobilisation in Ogun State.
