“Security Is Everyone’s Business” — Bishop Oludipe Calls Nigerians to Vigilance, Integrity, and Shared Responsibility in 2026

The Diocesan Bishop of Ijebu, Anglican Communion, The Rt. Revd. Dr. Peter Rotimi Oludipe, has challenged Nigerians to take collective ownership of the nation’s security, moral direction, and leadership culture as the country steps into 2026, describing the new year as one of “limitless possibilities” that demands vigilance and integrity from all.

In his New Year message released from the Diocesan Office in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Bishop Oludipe stressed that national safety cannot be left solely in the hands of government, declaring that “security is everyone’s concern.” He urged citizens to be watchful within their communities and to speak up whenever potential dangers are noticed, arguing that peace and progress thrive where people are proactive and responsible.

which Reflecting on the year 2025   the Bishop noted that the year was marked by resilience and divine guidance despite prevailing challenges. Looking ahead, he welcomed 2026 as the “Year of Golden Jubilee,” drawn from Leviticus 25:10, and called on Christians to remain spiritually alert, purposeful, and aligned with God’s will.

Beyond the pulpit, Bishop Oludipe delivered a pointed message to Nigeria’s political leaders, describing leadership as a sacred trust that must be exercised with integrity, justice, and compassion. He warned against self-interest in governance, insisting that national rebuilding requires leaders who place the common good above personal gain, while citizens equally uphold truth, equity, and righteousness.

He also charged families and individuals to approach the new year with renewed faith and practical readiness, urging the nurturing of godly values in homes and a deeper commitment to service to society.

The Bishop noted that 2026 also marks the 50th anniversary of the Diocese of Ijebu within the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, a milestone he described as both a moment of gratitude and renewed commitment.

Concluding his message, Bishop Oludipe prayed for divine blessings upon the Diocese of Ijebu and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, expressing optimism that with vigilance, righteous leadership, and steadfast faith, the nation can confront its challenges and emerge stronger and more resilient in the year ahead.
