Bandits Abduct 25 Schoolgirls, Kill Vice Principal in Attack on Kebbi School

Bandits have abducted 25 students of Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, in a deadly overnight attack that also claimed the life of the school’s Vice Principal.

The gunmen stormed the school late Sunday, operating unhindered as they seized the schoolgirls and unleashed panic across the community. According to residents, the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, was shot dead while attempting to protect the students during the invasion.

Community members have since been mourning the slain educationist, offering prayers for his soul and calling for comfort for his family.

Confirming the incident, the Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said 25 students were taken by the attackers.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, said Deputy Governor Senator Umar Tafida had been dispatched to the school to assess the situation on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris, who was away from the state at the time of the attack.

“The deputy governor is on his way to know the exact situation. The governor is not in the state for now, but his deputy will go on his behalf until he returns at any moment from now,” Idris said.

Anxious parents and residents are awaiting further official updates on the condition and whereabouts of the abducted students.
