FG Reveals Plans To Review Minimum Wage

The Federal Government has revealed its plans to increase the 30,000-naira minimum wage in the light of inflation ravaging the world.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr CHRIS NGIGE, made the revelation at the Nigeria Labour Congress public presentation in Abuja.

He advised the executives of affiliate unions of the Nigeria Labour Congress to familiarize themselves with labour laws.

Dr CHRIS NGIGE said that in the current economic situation, the current minimum wage of 30,000 naira would not, in the present economic reality, pay workers’ transportation fares to work for a month.

Also speaking, President of the Trade Union Congress, FESTUS OSIFO, said that the sole aim of the labour movement in the country was to protect the interest of workers.
