Senate will today commence the debate a motion on the ruling of the Federal High Court in Abia state, which ordered the removal of Section 84 subsection 10 of the Electoral Act.

The Senate made the decision after a point of order moved by Senator GEORGE SEKIBO.

Senator SEKIBO argued that the court made a mistake in its ruling by negating the principle of separation of powers, saying that the Constitution gives the National Assembly powers to make laws and guide INEC in the conduct of elections.

Recall that Justice EVELYN ANYADIKE had ruled that the clause in contention was unconstitutional and illegal as it violated the clear provisions of the Constitution.
