Legal Practitioners Express Views On The Bill Seeking To Reduce The Timelines For Court Hearing On Civil Criminal Cases

Legal practitioners have expressed different views on the bill seeking to reduce the timelines for court hearing on civil criminal cases, which was rejected by the Senate, but passed in the House.

A legal practitioner FESTUS OGUN expressed surprise at the rejection of the bill, saying that both chambers of the National Assembly should have passed it.

A constitutional lawyer and Public Affairs analyst, LIBOROUS OSHOMA however, said that the bill was unnecessary due to the nature of Nigeria’s judicial system.

LIBOROUS OSHOMA also commended the National Assembly for separating the office of the Attorney-General from that of the Minister of Justice and Commissioner of Justice.
