Rwanda has banned transport in and out of the capital Kigali and extended an evening curfew for another three weeks amid a second wave of the coronavirus.
Rwanda, which in March last year was one of the first countries in Africa to impose strict lockdowns, has registered 105 deaths from Covid-19, half of them recorded in December alone.
The Prime Minister’s office released a statement ordering the new measures, effective from today and for the next 15 days.
All public and private transport in and out of Kigali and between different districts has been banned, the 8:00pm-4:00am curfew has been extended and all businesses ordered to close at 6:00pm.
