Legal practitioner and human rights advocate, MIKE OZEKHOME says the constant hijack of funds by the state governments is the reason why the local government system is no longer working.
MIKE OZEKHOME said this during his keynote address at the 2nd LADI ADEBUTU good governance summit held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential library, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
He said the current system of states collecting monthly allocations and not releasing them to the local governments is no longer workable, while calling for a return to fiscal federalism
Furthermore, thw senior advocate of Nigeria, called for a referendum among all ethnic groups in the country to forge a new direction for the nation.
MIKE OZEKHOME said the country can no longer afford the current levels of marginalization, victimization and internal oppression.
He also added that the current practice of open grazing of cattle was no longer feasible, and called for ranching as practiced in other countries.
