President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has called for international support to upgrade development efforts in the Niger Basin area which currently has more than 160 million people depending on the river for their livelihoods.

President BUHARI said this in Abuja while declaring open the virtual 12th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Niger Basin Authority.

The President added that the Niger River offers enormous development opportunities in fish farming, animal husbandry, agriculture, fishing, hydropower, hydraulics and navigation.

President BUHARI also gave account of his five-year term, as the outgoing Chairman of the Leaders’ Summit.
