President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has appointed Major General FAROUK YAHAYA as the new Chief of Army Staff. 

This is according to a statement issued by the Acting Director of Information at the Defence Headquarters, Brigadier General ONYEMA NWACHUKWU.

Major-General YAHAYA was commissioned into the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps on September 22 1990, and has held several appointments including Staff, Instructional and Command.

Before now, he was the General Officer Commanding of the Nigerian Army 1 Division and the Theatre Commander of the Counter terrorism military outfit in the North-East code-named Operation HADIN KAI.
