The Ogun State government has begun palliative work in the areas affected by flooding during last weekend torrential rain in Abeokuta, the State capital.
The state Commissioner for Environment, ABIODUN ABUDU-BALOGUN said the palliatives which included fixing failed bridges, were meant to bring temporary relief to the people.
He said Engineers from the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure as well as Environment have assessed the extent of damage, with a view to finding lasting solutions to the problem.
The Commissioner noted that dredging was on-going in 16 places across the State, adding that waterways from Isale-Oja, Kuto to OLUSEGUN OBASANJO Presidential Library, up to the Orange Valley Estate, in Abeokuta were being cleared.
He said the damage caused by the flood, would have been enormous, but for continuous dredging of waterways.
