1998 Nobel Peace Prize winner JOHN HUME has died at the age of 83, his family has announced.

HUME passed away after suffering from dementia and in the care of a nursing home.

The Northern Irish politician won the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in ending three decades of strife in Northern Ireland between the nationalist community who wanted to unify with Ireland and unionists who wanted to remain part of Britain.
