The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), BUBA MARWA has opposed demands for the legalization of cannabis in Nigeria.
BUBA MARWA while addressing newsmen in Abuja, the nation’s capital ahead of the 2021 World Drug Day, said the nation cannot afford to mortgage the lives of the citizens for financial gains by legalizing cannabis.
BUBA MARWA in response to earlier calls by Ondo State governor, ROTIMI AKEREDOLU for the legalization of the cultivation of Cannabis, said it was not acceptable to NDLEA and that the agency will continue to burn down marijuana farms and prosecute whoever is caught doing the business.
He added that such calls by the Ondo State Governor and some legislators must be resisted at all cost.
The NDLEA Chairman also restated his earlier suggestion to have politicians subjected to drug testing before they are allowed to contest for elective positions, and said it was necessary to ensure that only sane persons are allowed to lead the country in whatever capacity.
