The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor MAHMOOD YAKUBU has asked for the replacement of the current manual voting with an electronic system.

Professor YAKUBU said this at the inauguration of the House of Representatives Special Committee on the Review of 1999 Constitution in Abuja.

He said that Nigeria’s electoral process was too manual and very outdated, adding that there must be an amendment to accommodate electronic voting in the country’s electoral process.

The INEC Chairman also called for the establishment of an electoral offenses commission to punish offenders stating that the review of the constitution must provide a punitive measure for electoral offenders in the country.
