The International Association of Athletics Federations IAAF has agreed to stage the 2022 World Athletics Championships in the United States three weeks earlier than planned to avoid a clash with the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

The championships due to take place in  Oregon, had already been pushed back a year after the postponement of this summer's Tokyo 2020 Olympics to 2021 because of the corona virus pandemic.

After a week of negotiations, an agreement has been reached, with athletics' governing body shifting the event to hold between15 to 24 July 2022.
