FG: ASUU and other Unions guilty of wasting investments in Universities

The Federal Government has accused the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other unions within the university system of not justifying the investment in education.

The Minister of Education, ADAMU ADAMU, who disclosed this at the 2021 annual press briefing in Abuja stated that in the last one year, Tertiary Education Trust Fund has committed about 400 billion naira to the development of infrastructure in the tertiary institutions across the country.

According to him, the 400 billion naira is different from the 1.3 trillion naira the MUHAMMADU BUHARI administration has spent on capital expenditure in the nation tertiary institutions.

The minister stated that in the last five years, BUHARI’s administration has invested approximately 1.7 trillion naira in tertiary institutions with the universities taking two third of the total sum.

ADAMU lamented that despite the huge commitment by the administration, ASUU has been on strike for almost a year over the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System.
