President MUHAMMADU BUHARI and other African leaders have attended a virtual meeting of the Extraordinary Session of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government.
While delivering his speech at the virtual meeting, President BUHARI called on all citizens of Mali to embrace the proposals for a government of national unity where inclusiveness in governance would be the core mandate.
Still weighing in on the sociopolitical situation in Mali, he urged member states to be conscious of the fragility of the West African region and its penchant for negative tendencies such as terrorism and insurgency.
The summit was convened following a peace mission to Mali led by the President of Niger, ISSOUFOU MAHAMADOU.
At the summit, ECOWAS resolved that the demands by the opposition for the Malian president to resign are unconstitutional and will not be accepted by the regional body, and therefore gave an ultimatum of 10 days for the implementation of the recommendations put forward at the summit.
