The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has said the ongoing strike action is beyond Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System, IPPIS and unpaid salary but to rescue and preserve university education.
This was contained in a statement by the Coordinator ASUU Lagos Zone Professor OLUSIJI SOWANDE at a press conference held today at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye.
Professor OLUSIJI said Government's problem is not lack of funds but insensitivity and lack of commitment to education.
He said the Federal Government has now resulted to blackmail, intimidation and propagation of falsehood by using IPPIS as a weapon.
The Union warned that if the ongoing struggle fails, parents would have to pay through their nose to send their wards to school and some students may drop out of school.
ASUU reinstated its demands which include university autonomy, implementation of the Federal Government-ASUU 2009 Agreement, revitalization of University infrastructure, Earned Academic Allowances, Setting up of visitation panels, among other issues.
ASUU has been on strike since March 2020.
