FG Begins Evacuation of Nigerians from Iran Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

The Federal Government has commenced the evacuation of Nigerians in Iran, escorting willing citizens safely across the Armenia border as tensions escalate in the Middle East.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), confirmed the operation on her X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, noting that officials from the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran are coordinating the safe movement of citizens wishing to leave.

“The willing Nigerians in Iran are being safely escorted across the Armenia border by officials from the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, ensuring smooth and secure passage for those wishing to leave,” she wrote.

Dabiri-Erewa reassured that no Nigerian has been affected by the ongoing tensions so far, adding that embassy staff remain stationed at the border to receive and assist evacuees.

The evacuation, carried out in coordination with Armenian authorities, underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding Nigerians abroad during emergencies and reflects ongoing monitoring of developments in the Middle East.
