Former presidential candidate Gbenga Hashim has described the ongoing legal disputes within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a “family quarrel” that should now be resolved following the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal.
The ruling invalidated the party’s Ibadan convention and upheld the suspension of Samuel Anyanwu as national secretary, prompting party leaders to seek a negotiated settlement to restore internal cohesion.
In a statement on Monday, Dr. Hashim emphasized that leaders from opposing factions had agreed in principle to work toward common ground through ongoing talks and negotiations.
“This is a family quarrel that must now end at the Appeal Court. Leaders on both sides have agreed in principle to unite and harmonise positions in all the talks and negotiations we have heard,” he said, expressing optimism that reconciliation efforts would succeed.
Dr. Hashim added that party members and many Nigerians are eager to see a united opposition, noting: “We trust that this unity would be achieved by the grace of God. Nigerians earnestly expect this and posterity demands it.”
The PDP has been grappling with internal disagreements and legal battles since the 2023 General Elections, a crisis that has seen no fewer than nine governors leave the party, citing irreconcilable differences. Party stakeholders insist that resolving these disputes is crucial to strengthening the opposition ahead of future political contests.
