Bankole Olowookere Resigns as Osun Babes Head Coach Over Unpaid Salaries

Bankole Olowookere has officially stepped down as Technical Adviser (head coach) of Osun Babes, a club competing in the Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership.

Olowookere, who took charge in November 2025, cited the club’s repeated failure to meet financial obligations, including players’ and coaches’ salaries and bonuses, as the key reason for his resignation. Despite multiple discussions and appeals, the management did not fulfill these commitments, prompting the coach to step aside.

“I wish the club all the best in their quest to retain their status as an elite club in Nigeria,” Olowookere said, acknowledging the challenges faced during his short tenure but highlighting his positive impact on the team.

Before joining Osun Babes, Olowookere gained recognition in Nigerian women’s football as head coach of Naija Ratels. He guided the team to a successful debut in the top flight, securing a spot in the NWFL Premiership Super Six playoff tournament. In 2024, he led Naija Ratels to the final of the NFF Federation Cup (Women’s), narrowly losing 1-0 to Rivers Angels at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.

Olowookere’s resignation underscores ongoing financial and administrative challenges in Nigerian women’s football, even as the sport continues to grow in visibility and competitiveness.
