FRSC Secures Conviction of 20 Traffic Offenders in Ogun Mobile Court

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has secured the conviction of 20 traffic offenders during a mobile court sitting held at the agency’s Ogun State Sector Command in Abeokuta.

The development was disclosed on Tuesday in a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Odunsi Afolabi.

According to the statement, the mobile court session was presided over by Chief Magistrate O.T. Odubanjo and involved motorists apprehended during special enforcement operations conducted by FRSC personnel across major operational corridors in the state.

At the end of the proceedings, 21 offenders were arraigned before the court, out of which 20 were convicted while one defendant was discharged.

Authorities disclosed that a total of 65 traffic offences were recorded against the offenders, although none of those convicted was sentenced to imprisonment.

The offences prosecuted included seatbelt violations, speed limit device violations, driver’s licence offences, overloading, tyre-related violations, vehicle licence infractions and number plate offences.

The Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Akinwunmi Fasakin, said the enforcement operation formed part of the agency’s strategy to ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations and reduce road crashes.

According to him, the exercise was aimed at compelling motorists to obey traffic laws in order to minimise road fatalities across the state.

Officials also noted that the mobile court proceedings were conducted peacefully, with armed security personnel deployed to ensure the smooth conduct of the session.

The FRSC maintained that mobile courts remain an effective enforcement mechanism for strengthening compliance with traffic laws and promoting safer driving practices on Nigeria’s highways.
