Former Ogun State Governor and current Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has proposed the establishment of four additional campuses for the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED)agun, after the institution’s recent takeover by the Federal Government.
Daniel made the announcement during a midterm assessment and review tour of Ijebu North East Local Government at the Equity Resort, Erunwon, where he also facilitated free medical services and distributed empowerment tools to residents.
Highlighting the constraints faced by TASUED, Daniel explained that the university, founded during his administration in 2005, currently occupies 151 hectares of land, far below the 10,000 hectares typically required for a federal university, which could limit its long-term development.
He proposed the following expansion plan:
Skill Acquisition Mini-Campus at Okeolugbogun, Ijebu North East
Conversion of Gateway Petroleum Institute in Oni, Ogun Waterside, into a satellite campus
Artificial Intelligence and Innovation Mini-Campus at Illishan/Odogbolu
Health Sciences Mini-Campus in Ijebu-Ode
Daniel emphasized that the initiative would enhance educational opportunities and technological development within the region.
Addressing the role of the state government, he urged cooperation with his efforts to facilitate federal projects, stressing:
“A fundamental part of my role as your Senator is lawmaking and facilitating federal projects for our constituency. However, the execution of such projects lies with federal agencies, often in collaboration with state agencies. What we expect from the state government is cooperation, not hostility.”
On the controversy surrounding the rehabilitation of Paddy Arikawe Road in Sagamu GRA, Daniel clarified that the road, constructed during his tenure over two decades ago, had suffered neglect, and his facilitation of its rehabilitation aimed to improve infrastructure and boost development.
He also expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for taking over TASUED, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to national development, and voiced support for the President’s 2027 re-election bid. Daniel called for unity among the people of Remo and Ijebu and urged backing for the creation of a proposed Ijebuland State from the present Ogun State.
Responding to allegations of hostility, the Ogun State Government denied any antagonism toward Daniel. The Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, said the state only insisted that proper procedures and approvals be obtained before project execution. The contractor handling the Paddy Arikawe Road project has since agreed to comply and resumed work at the site.
