Federal Ministry of Works Issues Travel Advisory Ahead of Kara Bridge Repairs on Lagos–Ibadan Expressway

The Federal Ministry of Works has urged motorists and road users to plan ahead and consider alternative routes as repair works commence on the Kara Bridge along the outbound lane of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The ministry’s advisory follows earlier announcements regarding the replacement of damaged expansion joints on the bridge. According to the Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Engr. Olayiwola Komolafe, maintenance work is set to begin on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, and is expected to last approximately two weeks, concluding on March 24, 2026.

Motorists travelling from Ikorodu to Mowe, Sagamu, and Ibadan are advised to use alternative routes via Shimawa or Mosinmi. Those coming from Lagos Island are encouraged to take the Epe corridor through Ijebu-Ode to access Sagamu, Ibadan, and Mowe.

Motorists are reminded that a shorter route may not necessarily be the fastest. They are advised to plan their journeys early, obey traffic management directives, and drive cautiously around the work zone,” Komolafe stated, appealing for patience during the repair period.

The ministry acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the temporary partial closure and expressed appreciation to road users for their understanding, stressing that the works are aimed at ensuring the safety, durability, and stability of the nation’s road infrastructure.

This repair follows a February announcement of a six-week partial closure along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway for urgent works at Kara Bridge, Magboro Bridge, and Arepo–Punch Bridge, which was temporarily suspended due to heavy traffic congestion and public concerns, prompting a review of traffic management and improved public sensitization.
