The Nigeria Police Force has removed its Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a development that follows ongoing restructuring within the force’s leadership.
Approval for his removal was reportedly granted on March 5, 2025, barely six months after he assumed the strategic communications role. The circumstances behind the decision remain unclear.
The shake-up comes amid broader organisational changes within the police hierarchy following the appointment of Tunji Disu as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police.
Disu’s appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu last week followed the exit of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun, who had served in the role since 2023.
A source within the force confirmed the development, stating that Hundeyin’s removal had taken effect.
“The Force Public Relations Officer has been removed this morning,” the source said.
Uncertainty now surrounds the identity of the next spokesperson for the police, particularly as operational and public engagement demands on the force have intensified.
“We don’t know who will take over from him, although we expected he might serve longer given his experience and expertise,” the source added.
“However, with a new IGP in office, it is not unusual for certain positions to change as part of administrative adjustments.”
When contacted for comment, Hundeyin declined to provide details, stating that he was unavailable and advising inquiries to be directed to state or Federal Capital Territory police commands.
The development highlights the internal realignments accompanying the leadership transition at the police headquarters and signals further changes as the new administration establishes its operational framework.
