OGEPA Partners E-Terra for Sustainable E-Waste Management as Ogun Approves Major Road Projects for Urban Renewal

The Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency has moved to deepen environmental sustainability with a strategic partnership aimed at tackling electronic waste across the state. The agency has advanced discussions with E-Terra Technologies Limited and the E-Waste Relief Foundation to establish a structured system for the collection, sorting and safe disposal of e-waste in compliance with global environmental standards.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding signed in Abeokuta, the companies have been granted a two-year operational window to demonstrate their technical capacity and environmental compliance in managing electronic waste. The initiative is expected to help corporate organisations dispose of obsolete electronics responsibly while preventing environmental hazards associated with improper waste disposal.

According to representatives of E-Terra Technologies, hazardous components of electronic waste containing substances such as lead, mercury and cadmium will undergo detoxification before final processing, ensuring that soil and water resources remain uncontaminated. The partnership also includes provisions for recycling materials in accordance with international standards, with some components scheduled for export to technical partners in France.

The General Manager of OGEPA reaffirmed the agency’s regulatory role in overseeing the operations, stressing that environmental safety remains non-negotiable. The agency will also introduce E-Terra Technologies to corporate organisations as an authorised provider for e-waste management under official oversight.

In parallel developments, the Ogun State Executive Council has approved a series of major road projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure and stimulating economic growth. The projects, which span multiple senatorial districts, include the reconstruction of key roads such as the Carwash–Moore Junction corridor in Adatan, Abeokuta, and other strategic routes in Ota, Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode and Ikenne.

Governor Dapo Abiodun described the initiatives as part of his administration’s urban renewal agenda, noting that improved road infrastructure would enhance mobility, boost commerce and create better opportunities for residents. The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure also assured that quality control measures would be enforced to ensure timely completion and durability of the projects.

The dual focus on environmental sustainability and infrastructure development underscores Ogun State’s commitment to balanced growth, positioning the state as a leader in responsible governance and economic transformation.
