The Chairman of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Olalekan Ifede, has urged members of the Association of Primary School Teachers of Nigeria (APSTON) to instill confidence and boldness in pupils of public primary schools across the state as a pathway to improved academic performance.
Ifede gave the charge while receiving the newly elected executives of APSTON at the Board Secretariat Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
According to him, pupils who are confident and able to express themselves freely in the classroom are more likely to perform optimally in their studies.
The SUBEB chairman emphasised that basic education remains compulsory and forms the foundation for every child to succeed in their chosen careers. He noted that the state government is making significant investments in the education sector and urged teachers to see themselves as valuable assets within the system.
Ifede called on teachers to reciprocate the government’s commitment through dedication, professionalism and improved performance in the classroom.
He also encouraged educators to continually upgrade their professional skills, particularly in modern teaching methods, assuring them that the state government would continue to support their development.
In his remarks, Permanent Member IV of the Board, Akeem Balogun, said the board had witnessed notable transformation under Ifede’s leadership since he assumed office.
Balogun urged teachers to prioritise the academic progress of their pupils above association matters and ensure that the board’s message is communicated effectively to colleagues across schools.
Earlier, the President of APSTON, Oluwaseun Salisu, said the visit was to formally introduce the association’s new executives to the board’s management and strengthen the existing partnership between the two bodies.
Salisu commended SUBEB for its efforts toward improving the education sector in Ogun State and assured the board that teachers would continue to carry out their duties diligently in the interest of pupils and the education system.
