The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) has arrested three suspects over an alleged attempted cable theft in the Ijebu-Ode area.

The suspects — Wale Mosadoluwa (31), Adeleje Okunuga (30) and Anifowose Michael (33) — were apprehended by the Special Squad of the Ijebu Zonal Command during a routine patrol in the early hours of March 2, 2026, around the Ijagun axis.

According to Corps Commander Dr. Soji Ganzallo, the suspects were intercepted while moving in suspicious circumstances. Tools believed to have been intended for criminal activity were recovered from them.

Dr. Ganzallo said one suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation to involvement in cable theft since 2023 and claimed he acted on instructions from an associate currently in a correctional facility, who directed him to retrieve equipment from a hidden location.

Items recovered from the suspects included a large cutter, pliers, a screwdriver and a motorcycle, which authorities say may have facilitated the alleged offence.

The Corps subsequently handed the suspects and exhibits to the Nigeria Police Force, Igbeba Area Command, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Cable theft has remained a significant challenge in Ogun State, disrupting electricity supply and damaging critical infrastructure. Security agencies have intensified operations to curb the menace, with authorities urging residents to report suspicious activities.

Dr. Ganzallo commended the cooperation of security personnel and reiterated the Corps’ commitment to protecting public assets.

The police have confirmed receipt of the suspects and are expected to conduct further investigations before arraigning them in court. Authorities described the arrest as a positive step in the fight against infrastructure vandalism and warned that perpetrators would face the full weight of the law.
