President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated fiscal policy expert Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, signalling a fresh adjustment within the federal cabinet.
The nomination was transmitted to the Senate in a formal letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio for confirmation.
If approved, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite will move to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking her third portfolio within the current administration.
Until his nomination, Oyedele chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, a body credited with advancing significant proposals aimed at overhauling Nigeria’s tax architecture.
Oyedele, who hails from Ikaram in Ondo State, is an economist, accountant and public policy specialist with decades of experience in fiscal management.
He holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from a predecessor institution of the present polytechnic system and later earned a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
His professional development also includes executive programmes at institutions such as London School of Economics, Yale University, Gordon Institute of Business Science and Harvard Kennedy School.
Prior to government service, Oyedele spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), rising to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
He also serves as a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at Lagos Business School.
The nomination aligns with the administration’s broader efforts to strengthen fiscal governance and improve economic management as Nigeria seeks to expand revenue generation and policy efficiency.
Attention now shifts to the Senate’s confirmation process, which will determine Oyedele’s formal assumption of office within the finance ministry.
